OUR MISSION

To support the people in our community (Gardiner, Modena, Plattekill, Clintondale, Ardonia, Highland, Wallkill, New Paltz) who are in need by welcoming them and giving them healthy food in a caring, friendly, non-judgmental environment.

OUR STORY

Helping Hands Food Pantry, Inc. is here for any local family facing tough times. Thanks to our generous donors, volunteers, and partners, we provide food to over 200 families each month.

We began in the late 1970s, when neighbors in need came to the rectory at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Parishioners donated food, and the secretary packed bags from the basement. In 1995, a small pantry was built in Parish Hall—this became Helping Hands Food Pantry, Inc.

Today, we’re a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit pantry, independent from the church. We currently rent (pantry) space in the St. Charles Borromeo Hall. We purchase food from the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. We are funded through grants, generous donations from community members and local businesses.

All residents listed above areas are welcome. Just bring a photo ID, proof of residency, and fill out a short form with basic household info (# of children & adults)

Meet Jean LeRose

Director

Jean has been the Director at Helping Hands Food Pantry since 2005.

Her passion for helping those in need comes from her 34 years of working as an 8th grade science teacher in the Wallkill School District

"Being a teacher you could see where certain kids needed help.   I realized that things could be so bad for kids and they were hurting at home. When I retired from teaching I was drawn to the pantry because I knew they helped the needy families in our area"

Since then, there has been no looking back for Jean and the support the pantry provides the community continues to grow.

Thank you Jean     for all you do!
